new music, new band
Hello Friends and Fans!
It's been a long time since we have sent out some news! Welcome and Thanks for reading our update.
Both of us hope that you and all the ones you love are having a great start to the new year. It's an important year, and it's our hope that we will all find ways to work together to make this year and each of our lives the best it can be.
So, with that in mind, here is a little quote that speaks to us for the kind of work we can all do. It's in this spirit that we share our creativity and music with you.
"The scope of service is not limited to gestures like giving big donations to public institutions... They also serve those who express their love in little things... If these small things were ignored, life would be not only unbeautiful, but uninspirational."
~ Meher Baba
And so, the news!
A big change has been taking place for us over the past several months, and in many ways we feel like we are arriving into a creative space that we have been striving to reach for years. Right now, it's hard to explain it all, but we can tell you it's very exciting for us.
We are developing a 'new sound' and are adding more instruments, along with a drummer and bass player. It's our intention to keep the intimate connection between us (which so many of you love) as our focus while we expand our sound into something much more dramatic and unique. Some of you can experience in-progress versions of this 'sound' if you happen to live near Asheville, NC in the next few months. And soon enough we'll be out there touring again!
But for now, we are in in the middle of planning a new album. We've been working on the new material and spending time just letting this new music come into being without any outside expectations. This is something that seems to be adding to the new music in a powerful way. We hope to record in Asheville, NC this Spring. As the plans develop, we'll be sure to share the news with you.
And yes, the Rumor is true:
We are 'changing our band name,' or basically, this creative transition we are experiencing has made us realize that what we are doing is essentially creating a new project. While we love the divineMAGgees name, it has not served us as successfully as we had hoped, since it is spelled wrong, pronounced wrong and often invokes a preconceived notion of what we sound like, meaning we have often been perceived as 'down home folk' before we've even played our music to people. While we started out our music based on a 'folk' sound, our music has gone through an immense transition since then.
So, for this new sound we are creating, we feel we needed a new name, one that reflects this new music and is easy to pronounce and promote! At the moment, we have arrived at calling ourselves The Electric Pearls, but even that may change (we especially love 'Pearl' being in the new name but we're not completely sure about 'electric' yet) ... but we'll wait until our new record is finished until we make an "official" announcement of our new name. (Does this make it official??)
We will keep you posted with updates and progress and maybe we'll even share some 'demo' songs of our new work with you. We hope you will continue to support us in this new journey and transition, because this feels like we are finally finding our true musical selves and this new music reflects many of the things we always tried to do with divineMAGgees music. And yes, we'll still be playing DM music at our shows etc... But we hope you'll love our new music as much as we do.
In the meantime, Be well and as always we are very grateful for your support and interest.
Much Love,
Danielle & Cregan
