Hello Friends and Fans!
It's been a long time since we have sent out some news! Welcome and Thanks for reading our update. Both of us hope that you and all the ones you love are having a great start to the new year. It's an important year, and it's our hope that we will all find ways to work together to make this year and each of our lives the best it can be. So, with that in mind, here is a little quote that speaks to us for the kind of work we can all do. It's in this spirit that we share our creativity and music with you. "The scope of service is not limited to gestures like giving big donations to public institutions... They also serve those who express their love in little things... If these small things were ignored, life would be not only unbeautiful, but uninspirational." ~ Meher Baba And so, the news! A big change has been taking place for us over the past several months, and in many ways we feel like we are arriving into a creative space that we have been striving to reach for years. Right now, it's hard to explain it all, but we can tell you it's very exciting for us. We are developing a 'new sound' and are adding more instruments, along with a drummer and bass player. It's our intention to keep the intimate connection between us (which so many of you love) as our focus while we expand our sound into something much more dramatic and unique. Some of you can experience in-progress versions of this 'sound' if you happen to live near Asheville, NC in the next few months. And soon enough we'll be out there touring again! But for now, we are in in the middle of planning a new album. We've been working on the new material and spending time just letting this new music come into being without any outside expectations. This is something that seems to be adding to the new music in a powerful way. We hope to record in Asheville, NC this Spring. As the plans develop, we'll be sure to share the news with you. And yes, the Rumor is true: We are 'changing our band name,' or basically, this creative transition we are experiencing has made us realize that what we are doing is essentially creating a new project. While we love the divineMAGgees name, it has not served us as successfully as we had hoped, since it is spelled wrong, pronounced wrong and often invokes a preconceived notion of what we sound like, meaning we have often been perceived as 'down home folk' before we've even played our music to people. While we started out our music based on a 'folk' sound, our music has gone through an immense transition since then. So, for this new sound we are creating, we feel we needed a new name, one that reflects this new music and is easy to pronounce and promote! At the moment, we have arrived at calling ourselves The Electric Pearls, but even that may change (we especially love 'Pearl' being in the new name but we're not completely sure about 'electric' yet) ... but we'll wait until our new record is finished until we make an "official" announcement of our new name. (Does this make it official??) We will keep you posted with updates and progress and maybe we'll even share some 'demo' songs of our new work with you. We hope you will continue to support us in this new journey and transition, because this feels like we are finally finding our true musical selves and this new music reflects many of the things we always tried to do with divineMAGgees music. And yes, we'll still be playing DM music at our shows etc... But we hope you'll love our new music as much as we do. In the meantime, Be well and as always we are very grateful for your support and interest. Much Love, Danielle & Cregan Monday, August 13, 2007music lyrics finally availableHey y'all! I've finally created a music lyrics page where you can read all the lyrics from our 2005 release, "love me like the roses." Check it out -- and thank you! And by the way, when you order a physical Cd from our store page, the order comes directly to me and Danielle, and we personally package and send your Cd to you! Perks of the indie-musician... Thursday, June 14, 2007country songsHello! I was just thinking about the South and how much I like living here. Yes, there are some very frustrating social and legal fences up, but I continue live my life naturally and fully in the public and private -- that's my activism. Anyway, I love the beauty here in Asheville. And I love performing for southerners. Maybe it's the fiddle, or the fact that we're two girls on stage rockin' out on our instruments and flirting with one another. No matter where we perform, there's always a sincere appreciation for music down here. (Of course I find this in many places throughout the country -- I'm just commenting, not comparing.) As some of you may know, we lived in Athens, GA, when we first moved to the South from Maine. Athens is a very cool town, and after 3 years, we're finally returning with tons of new music. We'll be playing Athfest next Friday (June 22nd). So if you're around, we'd love to see you there! Here's some more great news: We found out yesterday that we were accepted to showcase at NACA South in the fall. NACA is the college booking conference that happens regionally and nationally, where all the college student agents go to book acts for the next semester. Outside of NACA, it's pretty hard to get into the college circuit, so we are extremely excited to be showcasing for our neighboring colleges. If you are a southern college student and want to see us at your school next year, nag your student activities board and tell them to come see us in October in Charlston at NACA... Thanks for reading! Cregan Thursday, May 24, 2007great New England tourThank you to everyone who had anything to do with our little New England tour. Our audiences were fantastic, our traveling was easy -- despite the very long road hours -- and the music was fun! It was an interesting time to travel through the northern states: we went from surprisingly cold weather in Asheville, to 90 degrees in Massachusetts, to 40s and rainy in Maine (and it was still beautiful out there on the coast). We met some incredible women at Kripalu, including Jane Alexander, Ellen Burstyn, Katja Esson, Konda Mason, Molly Haskell, Devyani Saltzman and Karen Allen. We had tons of fun hanging with our new doorman-at-the-Living-Room friend, dirty kickin' Nick. We discovered that Toad in Cambridge is definitely the place to be on a Wednesday night. We got to play a surprise birthday party for a beautiful woman we met at Michigan Womyn's. We shared the stage in Boston with some of the hottest women around: Rachael Sage, Edie Carey, Trina Hamlin, Anne Heaton, Natasha Alexandra. And Portland's newest cafe, North Star Cafe , is incredible. Perfect for us wheat-and-dairy-free Asheville types looking for gluten-free bread... Our most sincere thank you to everyone who came to our shows and supported us and these great clubs. There's a lot of insane stuff going down in the world right now, and we are blessed to still be living lives where we can come together and share powerful nights of music and passion and love. All my best, Cregan. Sunday, May 6, 2007strike a pose
After spending all day and night driving along the Appalachians from NC to Western Mass, here we are at Kripalu Yoga Center. A gorgeous place, where we had a fantastic show last night for one of the best listening crowds we've ever experienced. All that yoga must really develop the focusing part of the brain, and everyone was so very good at sitting still for 90 minutes! Now we get to hang out for a few days, go to the sauna, eat fakin' bacon, and take part in the "Celebration of Women, Strength and Film" workshop that we have been anticipating for months! Very exciting. Alas, we won't have the pleasure of meeting Kathy Bates as planned, since she had a last minute commitment elsewhere (though I can't imagine anything more important than waking up at 6 am and striking a pose with a Sun Salutation, except somehow we often happen to be sleeping during that hour, so Kathy is off the hook)..... Anyway, we're so grateful to be able to be a part of this fabulous space and environment, meeting so many amazing people! Soon, we're off to Boston, NYC and Maine.....
